I am Denise Cobben, neuropsychologist, psychotherapist and ADHD coach. I studied neuropsychology at the university of Maastricht 1995-2000. After the core science I needed to be inspired by more personal wisdom. So I did some workshops in meditation, dancing, personal growth and body-centered therapy. In the meanwhile I worked as a schoolpsychologist, counselor and special youth family worker. In 2004-2007 I did my education as a psychotherapist at the Academy of Integrative Psychology in Gent. In 2008-2009 I had my ADHD-coach training with Dianne Zaccheo in Brussels. I live in Kortrijk were I have my own practice as a psychotherapist and ADHD-coach.

Spiegeloog (Dutch for 'mirror-eye') gives psychological help to people who feel the need to talk about their personal problems with a professional psychotherapist.  These problems may include adult ADHD, mood swings, depressed feelings, irritability, anger outbursts, stress, bereavement, the acceptance of a life change due to an illness, a handicap or a bad experience.

Psychotherapy is meant for people who want to look further into their personal functioning. Nowadays psychotherapy is not just battling bad functioning but also an enhancement of personal functioning.  A psychotherapist has knowledge about human personal development which is why he/she can look, together with you, at your own personal development and growth. By the phrase 'personal growth', we mean that you can always grow and function better than you are doing at the present. By looking at yourself and becoming aware of the way you do things you can look at ways to improve your functioning.  Together we map the route of therapy. Spiegeloog works in a client focussed way with the things you report. The therapy follows your own tempo so that your personal growth can be optimal.  There is no limit to what can be discussed because together we look at the problems that you encounter. By listening to you together with my specialised knowledge I can guide you to a better way to deal with your problems.

If you are not satisfied with the way the therapy is going you can always discuss this with me. If we can't arrive at a solution together I will find a colleague who might have a way of working that suits you better.  Therapy is very personal and it is most important that it works for you.

Coaching is a bit like psychotherapy but is is more about the practical actions that come with the insights you have gained about yourself. Coaching is meant for people who have problems putting these insights into practice.  They have the knowledge but they don't seem to be able to make changes. For example, people with ADHD usually read and learn a lot about ADHD, but they can't seem to find ways to bring this into practice on a daily basis. Perhaps even though a person knows he/she is chaotic, impulsive and rapidly distracted it's very possible that he/she is not able to do things differently.  This is where coaching is extremely valuable because it gives the extra support they need. In coaching, more practical tips are given than in psychotherapy, with more homework and personal projects worked on and followed up by the coach. Because they are separate approaches, coaching can happen in combination with psychotherapy.
